SmileThis graphic novel is an autobiographical look at Raina’s life in the tweens when she gets her braces. The day before she is supposed to get them on, she falls down and jams her two top front teeth very far into her jaw which is only the beginning complication of her ordeal with braces. Many trips to dentists and orthodontists are revisited and she finds that being different because of her braces is difficult. Overall, this is a quick read about the story of a very likable young lady who has an amusing, yet tender chronicle of how the experience with her braces shaped her whole personality. As a sidenote, I’d recommend to any girl who has braces as she will empathize with Raina as well as feel not quite so bad about her own situation. Suggested by: Jean (5/10)
